Heather Lowe - Artist Biography

Artist Heather Lowe studied an Art Foundation course in the U.K. then further trained as a fabric designer, continuing her education in the Arts with a degree in multi media textiles.

Heather’s career in the Arts has spanned over a period of 44 years.

Working as a freelance designer, she created fabric designs for Laura Ashley, Liberty and Sanderson. Heather then went on to lecture in Wales on an Art Foundation course as Head of Fashion and Textiles. She has worked as an artist in residence in over sixty schools and has led many community art projects both in the U.K. and Australia.

Heather was awarded first prize for her textile art at the Welsh National Eisteddfod and has exhibited her work both nationally and internationally. She ran her own gallery in Criccieth, North Wales and for the past six years has owned and run Oriel Karridale Gallery and Studio in Western Australia and has annually taken part in the Margaret River Region Open Studio event.

Travel diaries consisting of small sketchbooks and tiny paintings document her inspirations and the changing colours and cultures from around the world.

Free standing paintings appear on ancient fence posts, huge spherical saw blades and driftwood is often used as a canvas for her work resulting in quirky and creative art pieces.

Layers of interest and texture are created by Heather as she blends together a variety of different materials. Paintings and textiles often incorporate silk, fabric, fibres and handcrafted papers resulting in unique, exciting, vibrant art.

Heather’s Art can be in the form of large wallhangings, framed art, layered textural collages which often incorporate recycled materials and huge painted mixed media canvases.

Heather runs regular art workshops and is happy to take Art Commissions. Her energy, enthusiasm and passion for the Arts and nature vibrates throughout her art.
